Ooni of Ife is alive, says Royal Traditional Council

Controversy has trailed the death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, Olubuse II as the Royal Traditional Council,RTC, of the town, Wednesday, said  the paramount ruler is alive and in good state of health.
The RTC, which comprises of all traditional chiefs and title holders in Ile-Ife, said Oba Sijuade is not only in a good state of health but added that the royal father was preparing for his son’s wedding holding Sunday, next week, in Lagos.
Sources close to the foremost traditioner ruler told Vanguard at the palace that the traditional wedding of the new couple took place last weekend in London.
Addressing newsmen in the House of Chiefs located within the premises of Ile-Oodua palace of the Ooni, Lowa of Ife, Oba Joseph Ijaodola who spoke in Yoruba, said the report in the media that the monarch died in a London Hospital of an undisclosed ailment, was untrue.
Also speaking, the secretary Royal Traditional Council of Ife, who is also the Ladin of Ife,  High Chief Adetoye Odewole, said the Ooni is hale and hearty and he even spoke to the chiefs on the phone few hours earlier.

He added “those behind the death story are enemies of Ife and as I speak with you, the chiefs have not heard anything like that. This is not the first time such rumour will be carried about our father.
“They did it in 1984, also in 2004 and now, these people are coming up with another rumour. Oba Sijuade remains in sound state of health”.
Chairman, Ife Development Board, Prof. Muib Opeloye, said Ife as a town with a rich tradition has its way of managing its affairs.
Opeloye maintained that the royal father was preparing for his son’s wedding, urging people not to panic and go about their normal daily activities.
Meanwhile, the entrance of the Ooni’s palace was shut to visitors, as only newsmen, chiefs and relations of Oba Sijuade were allowed into the premises.
Many indigenes and residents of Ife had converged on the palace but were prevented from going in by the guards.
Meanwhile, the Osun state government is yet to make official statement concerning the demise of the monarch.
But the Osun State House of Assembly has expressed its sympathy to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, state council of Traditional rulers and chiefs, the good people of ancient city of Ile Ife and the immediate and extended families of the late Oba Okunade Sijwade Olubuse, the Ooni of Ife as the great King joined his ancestors.
In a statement issued by the Speaker’s spokesman, Mr. Goke Butika, the parliament “in a condolence message by the Speaker, Mr Najeem Salaam “expressed his regret and shock over the transition of the natural ruler to the silent land of his forebear, saying the engine room of royalty and the custody of Yoruba cosmology has just been temporarily grounded by the clog of death”.
“We celebrate the life and time of the great king, Oba Sijuwade, attesting that the monarch exuded unique royalty almost equivalent of imperial culture that could not be rivaled while he called the shot on the revered stool of his fathers”.
“The parliament then sent its condolence to the governor over the loss of the monarch and prayed that the Supreme Eludumare, the Cherisher of Aiye would rest the late natural father”,the statement added.

President Buhari’s Appointments So Far Shows Deep Hatred For Igbos – Ohaneze

Muhammadu Buhari
Socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo, said yesterday that it was not surprised at the way the appointments of President Muhammadu Buhari have gone so far as it had shown the president’s deep rooted hatred for the Igbo nation.
In an interview at the state–owned Anambra Broadcasting Service Television in Awka, Anambra State president of Ohaneze, Dr. Chris Eluemuno said the situation would not have changed even if the entire Igbo voted for him.
“I said it during the campaigns that General Buhari does not like Igbo people and it is happening now with all the appointments he has so far made since he came into office on May 29, 2015.
“He appointed five service chiefs and there is no Igbo man, even though Igbo have qualified people to occupy the positions.
“His party has completed the selection of principal officers in the national assembly and despite the fact that the speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara made case to apply the federal character in allocating the offices, the president jettisoned it through his intervention and left Igbo APC lawmakers out.
“He also exhibited his vindictiveness during his recent visit to the United States of America, USA, when he travelled with only governors from his party, leaving out governors from the opposition parties.
“He was also quoted as saying that he would favour those who voted for him and our position is that there is no way the president should expect all Nigerians to vote for him in the last presidential election. That statement contradicted Buhari’s earlier stand that he belonged to everybody and belonged to nobody,” Eluemuno said.
He further argued that Buhari had no reason to discriminate against the Igbo because the Igbonation played prominent roles in the development of Nigeria and should therefore not be discriminated against in the scheme of things.
He pointed out that apart from the Secretary to the Government of Federation, the remaining appointments are ministers and board members, which constitutionally must go to all the 36 states of the federation. Therefore, appointing an Igbo minister would not be a favour.
He called on the Igbos to brace up to the challenge posed to them by the APC-led federal government.
However, he advised President Buhari not to jettison the report of the Constitutional Conference convoked by former President Goodluck Jonathan. According to him, the Constitutional Conference report is key to fighting corruption in Nigeria as it contained recommendations that could help him succeed in his fight against corruption in the country.

US State Department has asked Adams Oshiomhole, the governor of Edo state, to name the official that told him a minister under ex-president Goodluck Jonathan administration stole $6 billion.

US State Department has asked Adams Oshiomhole, the governor of Edo state, to name the official that told him a minister under ex-president Goodluck Jonathan administration stole $6 billion.

African Suntimes said the American officials denied telling Edo governor, who accompanied President Muhammadu Buhari during his state visit to the US, from the 19-22 of July.

The official said: “The U.S. should not be drawn into such irresponsible comment as alleged by Mr. Oshiomhole. America has a transparent administration that doesn’t hide when people make a statement. If Mr. Oshiomhole claims a U.S. official told him that a Nigerian minister stole $6 billion, he should name the official instead of hiding behind an anonymous source.”
Nigerians while reacting to the development alleged that Oshiomhole’s marriage to a beautiful Ethiopian model is getting to his head.
“He is trying to impress the woman, as ugly and short as he is. He thinks by making all these accusations and being in the public eye, he could maintain her staying with him.  Look, his accusations have already worked – Buhari took him and his wife to Washington, DC,” said a Nigerian living in Washington, DC area.

It would be recalled that since President Buhari was sworn in on May 29, Oshiomhole has been on a campaign to involve some former ministers in the previous administration of stealing money.
He has been on a running battle with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, ex-minister of finance, who he blamed for withdrawing $2 billion from government accounts for Jonathan’s reelection campaign.
On her part Okonjo-Iweala has rejected the accusations.

Buhari, An Igbo Hater, Says Ohanaeze

The Anambra State President of the pan Igbo Cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the seven Igbo speaking states, Elder Chris Eluemuno, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is a hater of Igbo nation.
Eluemuno, who spoke in Anambra Broadcasting Service Programme (ABS) television programme, ‘‘Face The Press’’, said that all the actions and utterances of   President Buhari point to the fact that he did not like Ndigbo.
The Buhari’s actions, he said, contradicted his earlier stand that he belonged to everybody and belonged to nobody.
Listing further Buhari’s actions that portrayed him as Igbo hater, Eluemuno said that the situation where the President appointed five Service Chiefs in the country without an Igbo representation cannot be justified.
Eluemuno called on Ndigbo to brace up to the challenge posed to them by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government, which he said, is out to confine them to the dust bin.
He faulted Buhari’s statement that he would first favour those who gave him more votes, stressing, “there is no way the President should expect all Nigerians to vote for him in the last presidential election.
“This statement contradicted Buhari’s earlier stand that he belonged to everybody and belonged to nobody”.
Eluemuno said that by Buhari’s behaviour to Ndigbo, they were justified in their decision not to vote for him in the last Presidential election.
According to him, Ndigbo played prominent roles in the development of Nigeria and would therefore not be discriminated against in the scheme of things.
On the president’s threat to probe only Jonathan’s administration, the Ohanaeze chief said that it would amount to witch-hunt if he limits his probe to ex-president Jonathan administration.
He advised Buhari to commence the probe from the inception of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999, which was led by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo ruled Nigeria for eight years on the platform of PDP.
Eluemuno also advised the President not to jettison the Report of the Constitutional Conference but to study the report critically and make use of it.
According to him, the Constitutional Conference Report was a key to fighting corruption in Nigeria as it contained recommendations that could help the President succeed in his fight against corruption in the country to over concentration of power at the federal level, thereby making it very attractive to politicians, and leading to abuse.
On the President’s trip to U.S., the Ohanaeze chief condemned the idea of the president travelling with APC governors and leaving governors of other political parties.
He called on the president to realize that he was the president of Nigeria and not only that of APC.

HOTEL WHERE PEOPLE PAY TO HAVE SEX WITH ANIMALS BUSTED BY POLICE

HOTEL WHERE PEOPLE PAY TO HAVE SEX WITH ANIMALS BUSTED BY POLICE

Three men have been jailed after being convicted of running an animal brothel in Swansea, Wales. The hotel specializes in getting animals and grooming them to become good in having sex with humans.

Their animal catalog includes domesticated female white lions, mountain nanny goats, Irish pigs, Himalayan gentle donkeys and other species of animals. Some animals that are not dangerous like female sheep’s and some breeds of dogs are also trained to give oral sex and receive full vaginal sex from the customer who come to book rooms and have sex with these animals over night.

The customers who cannot afford to pay for full sex or book a room end up paying $15 for oral sex by the sheep’s while the rich clients pay as much as $120 a night for a room and an animal sex partner that is healthy and experienced in human sexual pleasure. The animals are often cleaned and sanitized before the act. The vaginas and anus are deep cleaned with antiseptic smeared with lavenders and honey to make it tight and wet. The animals are sometimes dressed with pantyhose, G strings and high heeled shoes depending on the taste of the client.
The ring leaders Adam Cafferty and John Cafferty and their father David Cafferty ran a ‘gentlemen’s club’ known as “The Ram Inn” in Grange Road, Swansea.
The brothers, 31 and 28 and father 52 admitted keeping an animal brothel between January 2011 and July 2015 and a jury took less than three hours to find them all guilty.
During their trial at Swansea Crown Court the jury heard they setup a website on the hidden “Deep Web” where people from all over the country could select the animal of their liking and book in for an appointment.
In their defense, the defense lawyer, Damian Erow told the trial judge and jury that the brothel poses no threat to its customers because the animal sex organs are sterilized regularly and that the animals are well trained to give and receive sex with their human counterparts.
All have previous convictions for committing the same offense at the same address.
The two brothers and father were all sentenced to four years in prison and the animals confiscated and sent back to animal conservatories because they have been so domesticated and sexually traumatized to survive tin the wild.
The clients are planning a peaceful demonstration to protest the infringement on their fundamental human right to happiness and sexual freedom. They ask to be allowed to chose their sex partners and follow their sexual orientation. They claim that they do not harm the animals instead the give the animals a chance to live a better qualitative life. The march is scheduled to hold Sometime later this year.

MORE REVELATIONS: Jonathan Conceded Defeat ‘Reluctantly’ – Buhari

The Paradigm reports with reference to the NTA programme that Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat “reluctantly.”

Recall that the former president of the country was highly praised for having accepted Buhari’s victory without argument. Buhari had also commended his colleague for exercising the true spirit of leadership. However, the incumbent leader expressed different moods during the widely publicised show, explaining that GEJ made the move unwillingly.

He noted that Jonathan had no other choice but to concede defeat, as the world powers had put pressure on the authorities. Numerous countries made it clear that a non-constitutional result would not be accepted.

“Now, you know what was done to threaten the last election, including threatening INEC by telling them that their security could not be guaranteed and they added six weeks extension to the time of the election. Luckily APC won and then reluctantly, the ruling party conceded and the rest, as they say, is history.

“So really the Americans have shown concern, they spoke to the former president, INEC, the opposition and maintained the pressure throughout. The Americans were in agreement with Europe and Nigeria.

In the course of the programme, Buhari also touched upon the sensitive issue of ministers appointment saying; only decent and experienced official would form his cabinet.

Alleged forgery of Senate Rules: Controversy as Police seek political solution

CONTROVERSY has swallowed the report of the Police investigations into the alleged forgery of the 2015 Standing Rules of the Senate following its recommendation of a political solution on the issue.
The 13-page report of the Police investigations obtained by Vanguard which details submissions from seven senators belonging to the National Unity Forum led by Senator Ahmad Lawan affirmed that the amendment of the rules was not according to the laid down rules of the Senate.
The Police report termed the development as not only “criminal, but portends danger for our growing democracy.”
Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy President of the Senate
Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu,  Deputy Senate President
However, the report, which did not indict any person, drew back from recommending prosecution. The report authored by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Dan‘Azumi Doma, concluded by suggesting that the casefile be forwarded to the Attorney-General of the Federation for his assessment as to whether a crime had been committed or whether the action laid within the internal affairs of the Senate.
The police conclusion is in the wake of mutterings by elements supportive of the Senator Bukola Saraki-led leadership of dire consequences on senators who petitioned the police for dragging the internal affairs of the Senate to the Police. The development promises a showdown between the two camps as the Senate resumes tomorrow.
Further controversies stoked the development, yesterday, following the submission by a senior staff of the National Assembly that the amendment was at the behest of the leadership of the former Senate.
Despite that submission, it emerged, yesterday, that no member of the David Mark leadership was questioned by the Senate. Senator Mark was not available for comment on the development, yesterday, as a senior aide said he was not available.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy President of the Senate; Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, the leader of the 7th Senate both denied being questioned by the police in separate interfaces yesterday.
Ekweremadu, who has been in media spotlight over the issue was not once mentioned in the report by the police.
Meanwhile, the report has drawn controversy upon claims that the Police received submissions from only senators belonging to the Senate Unity Forum, in the All Progressives Congress. Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senators and senators aligned to the Senator Bukola Saraki inclined Like Mind Group were yesterday muttering that their side to the issue was not taken.
Those questioned
The seven senators, who were questioned by the DIG Doma-led team, were Senators Suleiman Hunkuyi, Secretary of the Senate Unity Forum who wrote the petition to the police, Ahmad Lawan, Abdullahi Gumel, Kabiru Marafa, Gbenga Ashafa, Robert Boroffice and Abu Ibrahim.
Also questioned were former Senator Ita Enang, who served as chairman of the Business and Rules Committee in the 7th Senate; Senator Babafemi Ojudu and Solomon Ewuga, all of whom are members of the APC.
Also questioned were the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa; the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Ben Efeturi; Secretary, Directorate of Legal Services in the National Assembly, Mr. Daniel Adem and Secretary of the Senate Committee on Business and Rules, Dr. Ogozy Nma.
All of those questioned with the notable exception of Mr. Efeturi, who also doubles as the Clerk of the Senate, denied knowledge of the amendment.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Maikasuwa, who presided over the election, is quoted in the report as saying: “that he did not refer to any Senate Standing Order/Rules but used the normal procedures for the opening of a new parliament.”
The report also quoted him as denying knowledge of the existence of the production of the Senate Standing Rules 2015 as amended.
Efeturi, on the other hand, however, affirmed that the production of the 2015 Standing Rules was in line with convention as he said that the same procedure was used in the production of the standing rules in 2003, 2007 and 2011.
Efeturi, who is about the longest serving legislative bureaucrat in the National Assembly with experience running from the Second Republic, according to the police report is quoted as saying that “the Senate Standing Orders 2003, 2007 and 2011 followed the same procedure as that of the 2015.
“He emphasised that in the parliament, amendment of Standing Orders is by practice and not necessarily by procedure. He further stated that the ruling of the Senate President on the June 24, 2015 that the Senate Standing Orders of the Senate 2015 is authentic is final, relevant and cannot be challenged. He attached a copy of the debates of the Senate on Wednesday, June 24 24 where the Senate President ruled that the Senate Standing Order 2015 was the authentic Standing Orders of the 8th Senate.”
The police in its findings nevertheless dismissed Efeturi’s contention, saying that so long as it was not done in the lifetime of the Mark Senate that it was irregular.
But despite the dismissal of that submission, the police drew back from making an indictment. Rather, the police sought counsel from the Attorney General on whether the issue was a crime or leave it as an internal affair of the Senate.
Findings
(a) That on the 9th of June, 2015, a document entitled “the Senate Standing Order 2015 as amended” was distributed to senators of the 8th Senate for their inauguration as members.
(b) That the contents of the Senate Standing Order 2015 as amended are substantially different from the Senate Standing Order 2011 as amended. Sections 2(iv), 3(3)E, I,ii,iii, G and H, 5 and 7 of the Rules are different in the two Orders.
(c) That the Senate Standing Order 2015 as amended was used by the clerks of the National Assembly and the Senate as the Senate Standing Orders to inaugurate and conduct elections into the offices of the presiding officials of the Senate viz the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President etc.
(d) That the testimonies of some members of the 7th Senate including that of the chairman of the Business and Rules Committee and Senators of the 7th Senate indicate that the Senate Standing Order 2011 was not amended during the tenure of the 7th Senate which ended on the 8th of June, 2015.
(e) That the procedure for the amendment of the Senate Standing Order as contained in Section 110 of the Senate Standing Order 2011 as amended stipulates that any amendment to the Senate Standing Orders should be in line with the following procedures:
i. Any senator desiring to amend any part of the Rules or adding any new clause shall give notice of such amendments in writing to the President of the Senate giving details of proposed amendment.
ii. The President shall within seven working days cause the amendment to be printed and circulated to members. Thereafter it shall be printed in the Order Paper.
iii. The movers of the amendment shall be allowed to explain in details the proposed amendments, thereafter the Senate shall decide by simple majority votes whether the amendment should be considered.
iv. If the decision is to consider the amendments, then another date shall be set aside by the Rules and Business Committee, whereby opportunity would be given to Senators to further propose amendments but must strictly be confined to the original amendments.
v. Two third majorities shall decide the amendments and such amendments shall form part of the Rules of the Senate.
(f) That the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Benedict Efeturi, who doubles as the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly confirmed in his statement that the Senate Standing Order 2015 as amended was produced on the orders of the Senate leadership without following the amendment procedures as contained in the Senate Standing Orders 2011 as amended.
(g) That the allusion by the clerk of the Senate to procedure of amending the Standing Orders of Parliament through “practise and not necessarily by procedure” is a misplaced analogy and undemocratic because the Nigerian Senate has clearly laid-down without a provisio, the procedure to be adopted in amending its standing orders as contained in section 110 of 2011 Senate Standing Orders.
Recommendations
5. From the findings, especially from the statement of the Clerk of the Senate who doubles as the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, the Senate Standing Orders 2015 which was used to inaugurate the 8th Senate on the 9th of June 2015 was ordered by the leadership of the 7th Senate without following Section 110 of the Senate Standing Rules 2011 as amended which requires that any amendment to the Senate Standing Rules must be debated and approved by the senators on the floor of the Senate.
5.1. This practice where some group of senators amend the Rules of the Senate without following legal procedures is not only criminal but portends danger for our growing democracy and should be discouraged. However, it is recommended that the file be sent to the Attorney General of the Federation for vetting to determine if this conduct constitutes crime or should be treated as an internal affair of the Senate.

Boko Haram leaders can help Nigeria reclaim Chibok girls – Buhari

Abubakar Shekau
Boko Haram Leaders: Abubakar Shekau
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Wednesday in Washington that the leaders of Boko Haram could help the Federal Government reclaim the abducted Chibok girls through negotiations. Buhari, however, said that the government would have to establish, who the real leaders of the sect were before it could enter into negotiations with the group.
The President, who was answering questions from members of Nigerians in Diaspora in Washington, described the situation as “very sensitive“ and said that the government would need to find out the condition the girls were in view of reports that some of them had been “sold and married off“.
“There are people who are claiming to be leaders of Boko Haram. They will help us to recover the Chibok girls. “But, this is a very sensitive situation. Firstly, government has to establish that those they are claiming to be leaders of Boko Haram are indeed the leaders of Boko Haram. How do we do it – it is quite difficult. “In what conditions are they? Are they alive? Have they been kept as students? – because they are between the ages of 14 and 18.

“They are 220 (in number) and they have been in captivity for 18 months. There are rumours that some of them have been sold and married off. “There are rumours that the leadership of Boko Haram had married some of them and they have already had children with them. “But, the objective of the Federal Government is clear.
“We want them back, alive so that we can return them to their parents; rehabilitate them psychologically and if possible facilitate their continuing education. This is the objective of the Federal Government. “And if we can get a confirmed Boko Haram leadership, we will negotiate with them.“
According to the President, the sect is plotting to exchange some of their leaders currently being held by the government in different security prisons in the country. He said that the government was working closely with the neighbouring countries of Cameroun, Chad, and Niger toward securing the release of the girls.

He applauded the Nigeria Police for their efforts at checking violent crimes such as robbery and kidnapping and praised the Anambra government for demolishing the properties of anyone found to be involved in the kidnap of innocent citizens. The President earlier met with a group of young professionals in the United States at the same venue and assured them of his government’s resolve to fight corruption, remain steadfast, and invest heavily in education.
According to him, education is the panacea to poverty and ignorance among the youth. The youth in their huge numbers took turns to express their best wishes for the President and the country.

The Mistake Obama Made While Speaking About Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the United States of America (USA) has been very prominent in the news recently.

The visit of Buhari is expected to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the U.S.A and Nigeria in many aspects of both countries’ economic agenda.

Buhari’s visit is also an opportunity for Nigeria to seek a firm and committed support of the United States in helping Nigeria curb the excesses of the Boko Haram terrorist group causing havoc in the country.

The buzz that surrounded Buhari’s visit has overshadowed a major goof the U.S president committed while speaking to his counterpart.

Obama had described Nigeria as a country in the eastern part of Africa instead of West Africa while discussing with Buhari.

According to Washington Post, Obama who was speaking to reporters before the meeting commenced said, ”the U.S. hoped to partner with Nigeria so that Nigeria ends up being not only an anchor of prosperity and stability in the eastern part of the continent, but can also be an outstanding role model for developing countries around the world.”

Buhari was accompanied by Professor Adebowale Adefuye, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, and a few members of his delegation from Nigeria to the meeting.

Buhari on Washington Post, says ‘Boko Haram is losing’

This month, the world moved a step closer to the defeat of Boko Haram, the jihadist group that has terrorized hundreds of thousands in the northern states of Nigeria. In one of my first acts since taking office as president six weeks ago, I have replaced the heads of Nigeria’s army, navy and air force. Our new military leadership has not been chosen because of their familiarity with those in government, as was too often the case in the past, but on their track records and qualifications alone.
These new military leaders will be based in Borno State in northern Nigeria, where the headquarters of the armed services has been relocated. This shift of resources and command directly to the front line, in addition to the replacement of the head of the State Security Service, Nigeria’s intelligence organization, and a new emphasis on working in partnership with our neighbors, has equipped us to take the fight directly to Boko Haram.

Already we are beginning to see a degrading of Boko Haram’s capabilities as a fighting force. In recent weeks, it appears to have shifted away from confronting the military directly to an increase in attacks on civilian areas, as we saw only last week when an elderly woman and 10-year-old girl blew themselves up at a Muslim prayer gathering in northeastern Nigeria. We should not be confused by this change, hateful as it is: It does not mean that Boko Haram is succeeding in its aims — it shows that it is losing.
While we work to defeat the terrorists, I ask the people of Nigeria and the world for resolve and fortitude. The campaign we will wage will not be easy; it may not be swift. We should expect stages of success and also moments when it may appear that our advances have been checked. But no one should have any doubt as to the strength of our collective will or my commitment to rid this nation of terror and bring back peace and normalcy to all affected areas.
Similarly, my determination should not be underestimated in other matters. This includes instilling good governance and tackling the scourge of corruption that has held Nigeria back for too long.
As I meet with President Obama today — the first time a president of the United States will encounter a Nigerian counterpart following the peaceful transfer of power in a contested election in our history — I will be discussing my plans for critical reforms. So, too, will I discuss why the formation of my administration is taking time and, crucially, why it must. Already there are voices saying these changes are taking too long — even though only six weeks have passed since my inauguration. I hear such calls, but this task cannot and should not be rushed.

When cabinet ministers are appointed in September, it will be some months after I took the oath of office. It is worth noting that Obama himself did not have his full Cabinet in place for several months after first taking office; the United States did not cease to function in the interim. In Nigeria’s case, it would neither be prudent nor serve the interests of sound government to have made these appointments immediately on my elevation to the presidency; instead, Nigeria must first put new rules of conduct and good governance in place.
I cannot stress how important it is to ensure that this process is carried out correctly, just as it has been crucial to first install the correct leadership of the military and security services before we fully take the fight to Boko Haram.

There are too few examples in the history of Nigeria since independence where it can be said that good management and governance were instituted at a national level. This lack of a governance framework has allowed many of those in charge, devoid of any real checks and balances, to plunder. The fact that I now seek Obama’s assistance in locating and returning $150 billion in funds stolen in the past decade and held in foreign bank accounts on behalf of former, corrupt officials is testament to how badly Nigeria has been run. This way of conducting our affairs cannot continue.
Indeed, the failure of governance, it can be argued, has been as much a factor in Nigeria’s inability thus far to defeat Boko Haram as have been issues with the military campaign itself.
So the path we must take is simple, even if it is not easy: First, instill rules and good governance; second, install officials who are experienced and capable of managing state agencies and ministries; and third, seek to recover funds stolen under previous regimes so that this money can be invested in Nigeria for the benefit of all of our citizens.

We seek the support and partnership of the United States in these tasks. The importance of the fight against terrorism and corruption in Nigeria, Africa’s most powerful economy and largest populace, cannot be underestimated. Our allies can provide much-needed military training and intelligence as our soldiers take the war effort to Boko Haram. Similarly, we look to U.S. businesses as well as the Obama administration to help develop governance initiatives that can ensure that Nigeria’s wealth benefits all its people, not just a few. By taking these steps, we will be positioned to benefit from increased investment — particularly in energy and electricity — from the United States.

I was elected on a platform of change. I know this is what the people of Nigeria desire more than anything else. I know they are impatient for action. I realize the world waits to see evidence that my administration will be different from all those that came before. Yet reforming my country after so many years of abuse cannot be achieved overnight. In our campaigns against both Boko Haram and corruption, we should remain steadfast and remember, as it is said: “Have patience. All things become difficult before they become easy.”

DSS sources say Goodluck's head of security Gordon Obua has died in detention

alt

SUGGESTIONS coming out of the custody of Department of Security Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja indicate that former President Goodluck Jonathan's chief security officer Gordon Obua has died in custody this morning.

Since last week, Mr Obua had been detained in connection with the investigations into the spending of Nigeria's huge security budget during President Jonathan's tenure of office. Apparently, he had been held in solitary confinement in an underground dungeon and had been denied access to his lawyers, family and doctors on the orders of the new DSS director-general Lawal Daura.

According to one source, Mr Obua’s remains are still in the custody of the DSS and are yet to be handed over to his family.  Last week, Onochie Onwuegbuna, the lead partner at Zeran Legal, issued a statement on behalf of Mr Obua’s family complaining about the conditions under which his client was being detained.

He added that his client was being witch-hunted by the Buhari government and complained that Mr Obua was diabetic and hypertensive. Mr Onwuegbuna added that Mr Obua was being denied his drugs as well as food and water by the DSS.

According to Mr Onwuegbuna, his client was an employee of the DSS and his employers knew about his medical conditions but decided to deny him access to his medicines and a doctor. He added that the Buhari government had marked his client, and other individuals who held offices in President Jonathan’s administration and their arrest was part of a scheme designed to implicate them by all means for phantom crimes or offences.

Non-governmental organisation, the Society for Global Justice had called for the release of the Mr Obua, adding that his detention was indicative of the tyrannical, autocratic and dictatorship tendency of the Muhammadu Buhari administration. Society for Global Justice executive director, Marcus Ogabe, said Mr Obua was not told the reason for which he was being

Lekki Bank robbery suspect sues police for N1million

Lekki Bank robbery suspect sues police for N1million

One of the four Lekki bank robbery suspects has taken the Nigerian Police Force to court, asking for N1million damages for alleged unlawful detention. In a suit at the Ikeja High Court in Lagos, Ebi Tosan prayed that the police be directed to release him on bail. Respondents in the suit are Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ikeja.   Tosan, 20, was paraded by the police with Duke Odogbo, 38, Lawrence Kingsley, 31, and Ekelemo Kuete, 30 in connection with the March 12 robbery of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in Lekki, Lagos.

The applicant, who was arrested on April 5, claimed that it was unlawful for the police to keep him in detention without bail. He claimed that it was unlawful for the police to keep him in detention without bail. The matter could not be heard yesterday when it came before Justice Lateefa Okunnu because the police did not bring the applicant to court. But his counsel, Chief S.W. Baidi, complained that his continued detention without bail was an “infringement and curtailment of the applicant’s constitutional right to personal liberty, freedom of movement and presumption of innocence.” He prayed the court to declare that Tosan’s arrest, torture and continued detention violated the applicant’s rights under Sections 34(1)(a), 35(1)(4) and 41 of the 1999 constitution. In a 26-paragraph affidavit in support of the originating summons, Tamuno Amos, who claimed to be the applicant’s uncle, said his nephew’s continued detention was a deliberate act by the police to “extract a confessional statement from him on the alleged offence.” Amos averred that he had not been allowed to see his nephew since his arrest on April 5.

The deponent said: “The applicant is suffering on daily basis without access to food, bath and other conveniences and he may die in custody unless granted bail.” Last July 9, Justice Okunnu directed the police to produce the applicant in court yesterday. But, he was not brought, thereby stalling the hearing of his application . Justice Okunnu has ordered that Lagos State Attorney-General be joined in the suit. She adjourned the matter till October 22. The judge said if there was any urgency, the applicant could appear before October 22 before another judge who will be sitting during the court’s yearly vacation, which begins next week. The Nation

What a group, With no iota of conscience in them. blowing a baby up in booby-trapped training exercise. In what appears to be one of their sickest moves yet,Islamic State fanatics have blown up a baby in an attempt to shock the world even more..
Senior Iraqi sources say IS forces wired up a baby with explosives and then blew the poor child up as part of a training exercise.
The terror network wanted a human victim to illustrate how best to strap explosives to a human being.Having executed the baby’s father weeks ago because they claimed he killed one of their friends the sick gunmen wanted to kill his child.
They wired up the baby victim before detonating the explosives in front of dozens of recruits, in a bid to dehumanise them.
The murder happened on Friday July 10 in Iraq’s violent Diyala Province, North East of Baghdad, the war-torn country’s capital.
Diyala’s Provincial Security Committee Chairman Sadiq el-Husseinim who told a local news service:
“The organisation booby-trapped the baby in front of dozens of armed ISIS men and then detonated it from afar.“The organisation doesn’t care about the most basic human values.“Their crimes are incalculable and the blowing up of the baby is the best proof to the threat of ISIS’ ideology to the state.”

My Wife Is Sleeping With Her Boss To Pay Our Bills

My Wife Is Sleeping With Her Boss To Pay Our Bills

sex in office
My name is Felix and I have a problem that is only getting worse as time goes by. My wife Mary (Not real name) and I are both in our thirties and have been married for five years.
We have two children and are very happy together. I graduated from one of the top schools in Nigeria and was just starting my engineering career when I was involved in a car accident that took away my ability to do my job. When my firm let me go, I decided to start my own business.
After a couple of years of being in business, I am still struggling and barely breaking even. Throughout all of this, my wife has maintained her job and she has even been able to bring in more money to help support my business, pay the rent on our home, and pay for schooling for our children. Without my wife’s job, our family would be homeless.
The problem is that my wife got her pay increase by having an affair with her married boss. His company is extremely successful and she has been maintaining a relationship with him to secure her job and her higher income. My wife’s friends do not know about the affair and she tells them the extra money comes from my business.
I don’t know what to do. Without that extra income from my wife’s job, our family would never be able to pay our bills. But the situation is putting a strain on our relationship and it is causing me personal anguish. I feel embarrassed about the situation and I feel like a failure as a husband. I love my wife and she loves me, but this situation is something that neither of us ever expected to happen.
What should I do?.
